PASHRM Voluntary Opportunities

    In preparing for 2020, the PA SHRM State Council Board will have a few additional openings for volunteer opportunities.

     

    Open Roles:

    Emerging Leader Director

    State Conference Co-chair

    North Central District Director

     

    Listed below are the job descriptions for each position included for your review and consideration.

When responding, please include your resume, the position that you would like to be considered for and the reason why you would like to be in this role. All submissions will be reviewed and then responded to individually to those that have shared their interest.

     

    District Director

    Serves as a council representative of a designated geographical area within the state of Pennsylvania.  Provides leadership and communication to further the Society’s goals and objectives between existing and future SHRM members and SHRM professional and student chapters.

    Responsible To: The State Council Director           

    Responsibilities

    1.                   Serves as a voting member of the state council and is expected to attend and participate in all meetings of the council.

    2.                   Promotes SHRM membership among practicing members of the human resource profession.

    3.                   Identifies individuals who demonstrate effective leadership roles within his/her district for potential leadership involvement on the council.

    4.                   Assists the council in the dissemination or development of information, providing timely and accurate response to proposals, surveys and questionnaires.  Recommends policy changes as warranted.

    5.                   Provides direction, assistance and support of professional development activities within the state and SHRM.

    6.                   Develops and facilitates two-way communications between local SHRM chapters and the state council.  Maintains contact with assigned chapters Vice Presidents and attends chapter meetings and local board meetings on a regular basis.

    7.                   Attend Chapter Strategic Planning Meetings

    8.                   Attend Chapter Board inauguration and swear in incoming President

    9.                   Identifies and assists in the development of new SHRM Member Service Areas(MSA) through the affiliation of existing human resource organizations and other interested human resource groups.

    10.               Works with chapter leaders to incorporate state and SHRM goals into local chapter activities.  Promotes and encourages local chapter involvement in the SHRM professional and student chapter merit award program.

    11.               Expected to attend all four (4) Pennsylvania State Council Meetings annually (3 in-person and 1 teleconference).

    12.               Attend SHRM Volunteer Leader Summit

    13.               Participates in the planning and execution of the Pennsylvania State Council Leadership Conference annually.

    Requirements

    1.                   Must be an SHRM member in good standing. SHRM Certification highly desirable.

    2.                   Appointed by the state council director.

    3.                   Must have served as a Chapter President.

    4.                   Serves a two-year term beginning the first day of January and ending the last day of December.  District Directors may serve an optional additional year after two consecutive terms for a total of five consecutive years.

    Young Emerging Professionals Director

     

    Manages the young/emerging professional State Council recruitment and retention efforts.  Works with student programs in an outreach effort to transition students to chapter membership.  Responsible for the coordination of YP/EP events and efforts within the state.

    Responsibilities:

    • Serve as a voting member of the council.  Attends and participates in all meetings of the council.
    • Develop and recommend young/emerging professional initiatives promoting the acquisition, engagement and retention of YPs to chapters and State Council.
    • Coordinate young/emerging professional events and activities in the state.
    • Work with College Relations Director to encourage SHRM student members to join chapters after graduation.
    • Assist in helping young professionals to be utilized in various HR roles such as human capital and analytics.
    • Recommend to State Council ways in which young/emerging professionals can become involved in conferences and State Council activities.

     

    Requirements:

    • Must be an SHRM member in good standing.  SHRM Certification highly desirable.
    • Serves a two-year term beginning the first day of January and ending the last day of December.

    Conference Chair(s)

     

    Serves as a member of the state council responsible for managing all activities related to running the annual conferences.

    Responsible To: The State Council Director & Deputy Director

    Responsibilities:

    1. Serves as a voting member of the state council and is expected to attend and participate in all council meetings.
    2. Helps appoint qualified individuals to manage specific functions related to the conference with the objective of selecting individuals throughout the state.
    3. Provides leadership and direction to conference committee chairs and members. Monitors all activities related to the conference.

    Requirements:

    1. Must be an SHRM member in good standing. SHRM Certification highly desirable.
    2. Appointment is made by the state council director.
    3. Serves a one-year term beginning the first day of January and ending the last day of December.
