    Topic:  Tobacco Cessation Program

    Registration:   11:00am

Millions of Americans have health problems caused by smoking and other forms of tobacco use. Cigarette smoking and exposure to tobacco smoke cause an estimated average of 438,000 premature deaths each year in the United States. Of these premature deaths, about 40% are from cancer, 35% are from heart disease and stroke, and 25% are from lung disease. Smoking is the leading cause of premature, preventable death in this country.  But quitting isn’t easy, and it takes a well-informed and calculated approach when helping individuals who are thinking about or are ready to quit.

Luckily there’s help out there to make the process easier and more effective.  Hanover Hospital’s Tobacco Cessation Program is ready to assist your employees when they are ready to quit, and can offer you the support, guidance, and technical assistance you need to develop a sound approach to helping your employees achieve their freedom from tobacco .  With nearly 10 years of experience as a smoke-free workplace, Hanover Hospital’s Tobacco Cessation Program can assist with the planning and the ongoing support needed to help workplaces and their employees go, and stay, tobacco-free.  The dependence upon smoking cigarettes is something that many have difficulty letting go of, a virtual security blanket if you will.  That is why you should promote and offer many different ways to go about quitting for your employees.  Whether they prefer support groups, or one-on-one counseling, web-based programs or quick consultative programs, there is something out there for every tobacco user.  During the educational presentation attendees will learn about new developments in the field of nicotine dependence treatment relating to:

-Vaping/E-Cigarettes in the community and the workplace

-An overview of worksite tobacco cessation programs (what works/what doesn’t, implementation strategies, policy changes, etc.)

-Updates and considerations in the movement toward tobacco-free hiring policies
