This program provides the HR Professional with practical information regarding successful navigation of the employment law minefield when dealing with overlapping and conflicting federal and state laws.  The presentation will initially cover a basic overview of each law.  Attendees will also learn issue spotting techniques when dealing with specific claims and fact patterns to ensure that all legal liability and financial exposure is considered before making decisions how to proceed.  Particular focus will be given to medical documentation, restriction accommodation, and leaves of absence issues.

About our speaker:  Daniel M. Lieberman

Daniel M. Lieberman concentrates his practice in workers' compensation, unemployment compensation and general employment law.  In representing clients in all aspects of workers' compensation, he utilizes a full-service approach by addressing other overlapping legal areas such as the Americans with Disabilities Act, the Family and Medical Leave Act and the Pennsylvania Unemployment Compensation Act.  Dan handles workers' compensation cases throughout Pennsylvania, from the initial filing of a claim through the appellate process and settlement.  Representation of clients druing the unemployment compensation process is also a major component of Dan's practice.  He also routinely advises clients on issues of discipline and discharge, willful misconduct, policy violations, positive drug tests, absenteeism, tardiness, unsatisfactory job performance, and insubordination.  Dan represents employers in claims for discrimination and represents his clients before the Equal Employment Opportunity Commision, the Pennsylvania Human Relations Commission, the Unemployment Compensation Board of Review and the Pennsylvania Federal District Courts.

Dan is a cum laude graduate of the Pennyslvania State University and a cum laude graduate of the Widener University School of Law.  In addition to his legal practice, Dan has served as an adjunct instructor at the Lancaster Campus of the Harrisburg Area Community College and as a member of the Lancaster City Police Foundation Board.  He is also the former Chair of the Lancaster Bar Association Workers' Compensation Section.
